Next stop, Mt. Rushmore, National Monument where the 18m tall heads of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt are carved into the granite of Mt. Rushmore, in South Dakota (US State #25).
Built to attract tourism to the region. Approx. 450,000 tonnes of rock were blasted off the mountainside using dynamite.
